VIDEO: Curtis Campher Registers His Name With Malinga & Rashid Khan - Takes 4 Wickets In 4 Balls In T20I
Netherlands captain Pieter Seelaar won the toss and elected to bat first against Ireland in the 3rd match of Round 1 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. This match is being played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. However, this decision has been rendered disaster by Curtis Campher's 2nd over.
Curtis Campher, 22-year-old right-arm pacer from Johannesburg, crumbled the Netherlands batting lineup by taking 4 balls in 4 wickets. In the 10th over of the innings and Campher's second over, Campher dismissed 4 batters back to back and has now single-handedly put Netherlands on the backfoot.
Campher first dismissed Ackermann who was playing on 11, on the 2nd ball of the 10th over. Ackermann tried to pull one down the leg side but he gloved it which was caught by the keeper, as was revealed in the UltraEdge when Ireland took the review. Next up, he dismissed Ryan ten Doeschate - a big name from Netherlands cricket, by LBW.
On the third ball, Campher dismissed Scott Edwards again by LBW and completed his hattrick. Interestingly, all three wickets in his hattrick were adjudged not out by the on-field umpire. However, Ireland took the review thrice and was successful. Up next, Curtis Campher bowled Van der Merwe and completed this rare feat. He is in elite company as only Lasith Malinga and Rashid Khan have done this before. However, the 22-year-old is the first to do it in a T20 World Cup.
