Indian Cricketer & Opener Shikhar Dhawan was honoured by the 'Arjuna Award' on Saturday by the president of India, Mr Pranab Mukherjee. Dhawan was among the 9 recommended athletes 2 weeks ago for the 'Arjuna Award'. It is noteworthy that he was the only cricketer to feature in the Arjuna Award recommendations.

Shikhar Dhawan has represented India in 145 One-day Internationals, 68 Twenty20 matches & 34 Tests. The left-handed opener has scored 6,105, 1,759 & 2,315 runs respectively in the three formats. Dhawan also averages over 40 in Twenty20 internationals and One-day internationals.
Shikhar Dhawan received Arjuna Award along with 34 others on Saturday (November 13). He is the only cricketer Arjuna awardee this year. Dhawan has 24 centuries to his names in T20 & ODIs.

The Southpaw missed out on being a part of the T20 World Cup squad for Team India as KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma & Ishan Kishan were selected as openers. Dhawan scored more than 600 runs in both the IPL seasons - 2020 & 2021, which took place in UAE - the same venue as the World Cup 2021.

Dhawan has more runs to his name in both these seasons in comparison to Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma. It is suitable to say that Shikhar Dhawan was unlucky to be overlooked for the T20 World Cup squad as well the announced squad for the 3 T20 Internationals against New Zealand after the World Cup.
