WATCH: 'Baby AB' Dewald Brevis Smacks A 'No-Look' Six On Debut For Mumbai Indians
KKR vs MI IPL 2022: The cricketing world was saddened to hear AB de Villiers' retirement last year, and was taken by storm when a 'Baby AB' smacked 5 fifty-plus scores in 6 U19 World Cup innings. Dewald Brevis, AB de Villiers' mentee, was picked by Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he gave us a flicker of the talent he possesses.
In the 14th match of IPL 2022 between KKR & MI, Dewald Brevis was handed his debut cap. Mumbai acquired Dewald for 3 crores INR after outbidding Chennai Super Kings & Punjab Kings. The 18-year old batter came out to bat at #3 in the 3rd over when MI captain & opener Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 3 runs.
After losing the toss, MI got off to a shaky start as KKR pacers - Umesh Yadav & Rasikh Kalam kept the bowling tight in the opening overs. After Rohit was dismissed by a Umesh Yadav-short length delivery, Dewald Brevis came out to bat for the first time in his IPL career and smacked a four on the second delivery he faced.
Brevis was dismissed after a brief put impactful knock of 29 runs in 19 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. One of these sixes was a popular and acclaimed 'no-look six'. On the first ball of the 8th over, being bowled by KKR mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, Brevis held his head down on a delivery drifting into his pads. The batter deposited the ball across the fence over deep mid-wicket and didn't look up until the ball was far away. This inning, even though small, has definitely shown the fans what the 18-year old 'Baby AB' is capable of and more firepower can be expected from him in the coming matches.
