ENG vs NZ 1st test - Ben Stokes, the newly appointed captain of the England test team, was having a bad outing with the bat in his first match as the leader. After getting dismissed for 1 run in the first innings, Stokes was yet again bowled for 1 run in the second innings whilst England still needs more than 200 runs to win with only 6 wickets remaining. However, New Zealand's Colin de Grandhomme gave the NZ-born English skipper Ben Stokes a life.

After Daryll Mitchell's ton and Tim Blundell's 96 in the third innings, New Zealand managed to post a target of 277 runs for the English to chase down in the fourth innings to win the match. In reply, England lost 4 wickets for just 69 runs, and Ben Stokes had to come out to bat.

Joe Root was already at the crease with 16 runs in 39 deliveries. On the fourth delivery of the 27th over, bowled a fullish good length bowl on the offside. Stokes, who was already charging on every delivery, came down the track for this one and looked to fly the ball through the offside.

However, the England skipper only managed to chop it on via the bottom edge straight onto his stumps. Stokes hung his head low after the dismissal and started walking back.

Although, there was a twist in the tale. Colin de Grandhomme had overstepped, and New Zealand born England batter was given another life to save the test for his team.
