WATCH: Reece Topley's Record Breaking 6/24 Against India In 2nd ODI
ENG vs IND 2nd ODI - After an embarrassing defeat in the 1st ODI, the hosts bounced back to hand India a 100-run defeat in the second ODI to level the 3-match series 1-1. Reece Topley, a 28-year-old left-arm fast medium bowler was the star for the English team as he produced the best ever bowling figures by an England cricketer in ODIs.
After India bowled out England for 246 in 49 overs, the openers had their eyes set to provide a great start after taking the Indian team to a 10-wicket win in the 1st ODI. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored an unbeaten 58-ball-76 in the first ODI, was the first wicket to fall, as Reece Topley's full delivery around middle nipped in a touch from over the wicket, beat the inside edge and hit the back pad as the umpire adjudged him LBW, and the decision stood even after skipper's DRS.
Reece Topley struck next in the 9th over as he removed the other Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan (9). Topley bowled a back-of-length delivery slanting in. Dhawan shuffled across, looking to clip it away but only managed a faint tickle through to the keeper Jos Buttler behind the stumps.
Team India lost two more wickets in the form of Rishabh Pant (0) and Virat Kohli (16), dismissed by Brydon Carse and David Willey respectively. Topley returned for his spell in the 21st over. On the second delivery, Topley cramped Suryakumar Yadav for room and hence, in no position to play the cut shot, managed a thick inside edge onto the stumps. Surya was dismissed after scoring 27 runs in 29 balls with a four and a six.
In the 35th over, Reece Topley dismissed Mohammad Shami (23) with a slower ball as Ben Stokes charged in from mid-on to complete the catch. After India were 8 wickets down, Topley bowled Yuzvendra Chahal (3) on the 2nd delivery of the 39th over, and finally ended it with Prasidh Krishna's (0) wicket on the 5th delivery of the same over, finishing the match.
