However, in this Ashes series, we are beginning to see a new rivalry being born - Scott Boland vs Joe Root. Boland made his test debut at Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG), in the 3rd test match of this series.

Since then, Boland has picked England captain thrice - once at MCG and twice at SCG. Interestingly, in the last 27 balls, Boland has bowled to Root, he hasn't conceded a run and got him out three times.

In the 2nd innings of the 4th test, Root was looking solid for his 24 from 84 balls, trying to make sure England save the test. Boland was brought back into the attack by Pat Cummins and he immediately responded.

He bowled 15 consecutive dot balls to Root and on the 16th delivery, Boland finally found the edge of England captain's bat.
