Wriddhiman Saha has been fighting for his place ever since young Rishabh Pant has arrived in Test Cricket. Saha's age is not helping nor his fitness. He had to sit out the entire day 3 of the first India vs New Zealand match due to a stiff neck.

However, India needed him badly on day 4. Not for his keeping, where he specializes in but for his batting, where he's most criticized. India were down to 103/6 in the 2nd innings and he had to rebuild the inning along with debutant Shreyas Iyer.

The 36-year-old Saha has a lot of experience behind his back and all that had to be applied today in a tricky situation. From ball one, Saha looked to score runs on every opportunity and was not afraid to go over the top, whenever possible.

He swept William Somerville over midwicket to a massive six to stomp authority and continued to build pressure on the Kiwi spinners to make them bowl defensive, in which he was successful.

What will happen to Saha's test career in the next few days is in the future but he has made sure India is in a dominating position in the first test.
