Whether you bowl on turf or marble, you have to hit right areas: Ishant

Kolkata, June 7 (IANS) Raring to make a comeback after injury, Indian pacer Ishant Sharma on Sunday said bowling on dead wickets in Bangladesh would not be a matter of concern for him.

Ishant, who made his debut in the same country in 2007, said: "I don’t really look at the wicket to see if there is grass or it is a flat track. When you have a ball in hand it does not matter whether you bowl in turf or marble. You need to hit the right areas.

"We have certain plans according to the batsmen. We have to stick to it, set the fielding accordingly, keep doing your process and results will come," Ishant told media persons here.

Ishant said it was disappointing to miss the World Cup for injury but he is looking to move on and do well now that he has the chance to play international cricket again.

"It was disappointing to miss the World Cup, but it is important to move on in life and think about what is next and hope I can now do well again for my country," the 26-year-old said.

The lanky fast bowler’s career has been plagued with injuries but each time he has recovered and made a strong comeback. Till now, he has 187 wickets from 61 Test matches and 106 scalps in 76 One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Asked about it, he said: "It shows how tough I am. I have been through such a phase like I have been injured and get dropped from the side made it till the World Cup and then got injured again.

"It all depends on how mentally tough I am and what do I want to do in life. It is important you set up a goal believe in yourself and do well for the country."

Ishant asserted he is sharing his experiences with the likes of newcomers Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron just as Zaheer Khan did with him. But he added learning by themselves would help the duo in the long run.

"When I was playing with Zaheer, he was telling me what to do and that is exactly what I do now with Varun and Umesh. I tell them when the ball is reversing and what field to set. But apart from my experience there is no difference, they are almost the same age as I am so everyone needs to step up and deliver the goods.

"Learning by themselves would also help them in the long run instead of me going to them and saying what not to do,” he said.
