Women's Asia Cup: Jemimah Scores Vital 76 As India Women Thrash Sri Lanka By 41 Runs

INDW vs SLW: In the second match of the Women's Asia Cup 2022, Jemimah Rodrigues shined with the bat with her 76-run knock while Indian bowlers performed brilliantly as Indian women thrashed Sri Lanka women by 41 runs. Pooja Vastrakar & Deepti Sharma also contributed to the win with important wickets. 

After being put in to bat first, India was in a spot of trouble as they lost openers Smriti Mandhana (6) and Shafali Verma (10) for just 23 runs. From thereon, young Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur etched a partnership of 92 runs for the 3rd wicket, laying the base for a good score. 

Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed in the 18th over by Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapththu after scoring 76 runs off 53 balls with 11 fours and a six, guiding India to 150/6 in 20 overs. For Sri Lanka, Oshadi Ranasinghe picked up 3 wickets while Sugandika Kumari and Chamari Athapaththu managed 1 wicket each. 

In reply, Sri Lankan batters kneeled in front of the Indian bowlers, losing wickets at regular intervals where only three batters managed to cross the double-digit mark - Hasini Perera (30), Harshitha Madavi (26) and Oshadi Ranasinghe (11). 

Dayalan Hemalatha grabbed three wickets for 15 runs in 2.2 overs while Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma returned figures of 2/12 and 2/15 in 3 and 4 overs respectively. Radha Yadav also managed 1 wicket in her 4 overs while bowling at an economy of 5.00 as Sri Lanka were bowled out with 10 balls remaining. India will now play their next match of the tournament on October 3rd against the Malaysia Women's Team.

Earlier, Sri Lanka women captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss & opted to bowl first in the 2nd match of Asia Cup 2022. This match was played at Sylhet Outer Cricket Stadium, Sylhet.
