New Zealand made gains in the Cricket World Cup Super League standings courtesy of a brilliant ton by Tom Latham and Kane Williamson's 94* against India in the 1st ODI at Auckland on Friday (November 26th).

New Zealand attained 10 CWCSL points and moved two spots to the 4th position from the 6th position. The Kiwis are currently tied with neighbours Australia at 120 points, but Australia are minutely behind on Net Run Rate.

At 88/3 while chasing 307 runs to win, New Zealand looked out of the game against India. However, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson got together to etch an unbroken partnership of 221 runs, which is the highest for the 4th wicket in New Zealand cricket history.

Thereafter, the game was totally dominated by Latham and Williamson as India failed to pick up wickets in the middle overs yet again. While Latham smacked 145* runs in just 104 balls with 19 fours & 5 sixes, Williamson played the anchor with his 98-ball-94 run knock. This partnership helped New Zealand complete their second-highest run chase against India in the men's ODI.

India paid the price of not playing a sixth bowling option, while the two lead pacers were both on their debut  – Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik. Tom Latham and Kane Williamson played the home conditions to their advantage as they exploited the inexperienced Indian bowling lineup.

In the first innings, fifties from Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill propelled India to 306/7 in 50 overs. Washington Sundar also played a thunderous cameo of 37* runs in 16 balls with 3 fours & 3 sixes. For New Zealand, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson grabbed 3 wickets each.

With this win, New Zealand have jumped to the 4th spot on the Cricket World Cup Super League points table, where India are currently on the top. Now, all eyes will be on the 2nd ODI in Hamilton on November 27th (Sunday), where a win will take New Zealand to the #1 spot on the CWCSL points table.
