ZIM vs IND: Big Blow For Team India As Washington Sundar Ruled Out Due To Injury; Replacement Named
Zimbabwe vs India ODI: Off-spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe commencing on 18th August due to an injury. Sundar injured his shoulder while fielding for county team Lancashire in the Royal London One Day Cup.
A BCCI source who chose to stay anonymous revealed to news agency PTI, "Washington Sundar is injured and has been ruled out for the series against Zimbabwe. He will now undergo rehab at the National Cricket Academy."
For the past one year, Washington Sundar has been out of action for the Indian team due to different injuries and Covid-19.
Last year, Washington Sundar was injured in a practice match prior to the test series against England. Due to this injury, Sundar was ruled out of the second half of the IPL 2021 and the whole domestic season. After this Washington was infected with Covid-19 prior to the limited over series against South Africa earlier this year.
Owing to a hamstring injury, Sundar missed out on the home series against West Indies & Sri Lanka in limited-overs format in February & March. During IPL 2022, Sundar injured his hand and missed out on 5 matches due to this. After this, Sundar was playing for the Lancashire county team in the Royal London One-Day Cup, where he attained a shoulder injury.

22-year-old Washington Sundar has played 4 test matches, 4 ODIs and 31 T20Is for team India till now.
On 16th August 2022, BCCI announced through their official Twitter handle that Shahbaz Ahmed will replace the injured all-rounder in team India for the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. This is a maiden international call-up for 27-year old all-rounder who impressed with the bat and the ball for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
