2021 Recap: Things That Took Indian Cricket To A New High

2021 was an eventful year, especially in the cricketing world. Many things happened that will remain in the minds of the cricketing world for a long time to come.

For India, it has been a massive year as well and when it comes to test cricket, 2021 was the testimony of how well placed the team is in. 

Let's take a look at the top five moments to cherish for Indian cricket in 2021: 

1) Breaching Fortresses 

Indian men's cricket team breached four fortresses in 2021 - SCG, Gabba, Lord's, Oval, and Centurion. The win at Gabba took everyone by storm after the fortress was breached after 32 years. At Centurion, India became the first Asian team to win a test match and only the third team to win in the longer format. 

2) 2nd Consecutive Win In Australia 

India became the first Asian team to not only win a test series in Australia but to do it two consecutive times - 2018/19 & 2020/21. India won the four-match test series 2-1, winning the match at MCG, and the Gabba while drawing at SCG. 

3) Leading In England 

The five-match Test series paused abruptly due to covid cases but in the first four games, India is leading the series 2-1. They won matches at Lord's and Oval. The final test will be played in 2022 to decide the series. 

4) Indian women broke Australia women's ODI winning streak 

Indian women's cricket team defeated Australia to end their 26-match winning streak in ODIs. The streak started for Australia in 2018 and ended in 2021 against India at Mackay. Jhulan Goswami picked three wickets and hit the winning runs. 

5) India Women's Strong Test Outings

Indian women played two test matches this year and put on strong performances in both games. Against England, India drew the match after being asked to follow on. Taniya Bhatia and Sneh Rana stitched 104 run partnership for the ninth wicket to draw the match. Against Australia, Indian women played first D/N test. Smriti Mandhana smashed a century. India declared in both innings.
