There is always a first for everything. When the first time an event happens on a global stage, it becomes a landmark moment that is forever remembered. In this series of looking back at Indian Cricket's Landmark moments, let's talk about the first wicket haul and ten-wicket hauls.

First Five Wicket Haul In Test Match

India played its first-ever test match on 25th June 1932 against England at the historic stadium of Lord's. England won the toss and opted to bat first. Even though India was making its test debut it had filled in a brilliant fast bowler who went by the name Mohammad Nissar.

He could swing the ball at a high pace, leaving the batters surprised. Nissar opened the bowling and removed both England openers - Percy Holmes and Herbert Sutcliffe - cheaply. Les Ames, England's wicket-keeper, top-scored in that innings as he made 65 runs but he too became a victim of Nissar's pace. Walter Robbins and Freddie Brown also got out as Mohammad Nissar became the first Indian bowler to pick a five-wicket haul in tests.

First Ten Wicket Haul In Test Match

Picking 10 wickets in an innings is not an easy task to do. So far, only three bowlers have achieved this feat in the test history, including one Indian - Anil Kumble. On 7th February 1999, Kumble picked 10 wickets in a test inning against Pakistan at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi when India was defending 421 runs in the 4th innings. He was only the second bowler in history after Jim Laker to do this.

First Five Wicket Haul in ODI

The first wicket haul for India in ODIs was taken by Kapil Dev on 13th June 1983 against Australia in the Prudential World Cup. Kapil finished the innings with the figures of 5/43 in 12 overs where Australia scored 320/9. Kapil removed the opener, Kepler Wessels, cheaply and cleaned up the lower order to get to his five-wicket haul.
