IPL 2022 League Stage In Numbers - All Interesting Stats & Leaderboards
With the league stage of the 15th season of the Indian Premier League concluded, we have 4 teams who have reached the playoffs - Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants & Royal Challengers Bangalore, where only one team has won the IPL before (RR in 2008) while two franchises have been introduced this year - GT & LSG. RCB are through to the playoffs for the third consecutive team, being the only team to do so since 2020.
After 70 matches in the league stage, many players from the 10 franchises gave it their all in the biggest domestic T20 extravaganza in the world. However, with 4 teams making it to the playoffs, 6 teams also had to be eliminated from the competition, despite some of them having good team combinations and performances.
Here are a few important statistics and leaderboards after the group stage of IPL 2022.
Most Runs
Jos Buttler continued to hold the Orange Cap almost throughout the season and is still atop the list with 629 runs to his name in 14 matches. Rajasthan Royals are set to clash against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, and that means the explosive opener can play at least two more matches this season.
Lucknow Super Giants' captain KL Rahul ranks next with 537 runs in 14 innings, followed by his opening partner Quinton de Kock with 502 runs in 14 matches. LSG will be facing off against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator and can move forward with a win.
Most Sixes
Jos Buttler leads the charts for most sixes smacked with 37 sixes in the tournament. Punjab Kings' Liam Livingstone stands second with 34 sixes while Kolkata Knight Riders' Andre Russell holds the third spot with 32 sixes.
Most Fours
Jos Buttler leads all batting charts despite going through a rough patch in the second half of the tournament. The RR opener has smacked 56 fours in the season, followed by Delhi Capitals' David Warner with 52 fours. However, Warner played 12 matches whereas Buttler played all 14.
LSG opener Quinton de Kock smacked 47 fours in 14 innings and stands third on this list.
Most Fifties
Delhi Capitals' David Warner has smacked the most fifties in IPL 2022 with 5 fifties to his name. Warner is followed by Liam Livingstone, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda & Shubman Gill, all of them having 4 fifties to their name.
Most Wickets
The Purple Cap has also been with Rajasthan Royals as leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal leads the charts with 26 wickets to his name in 14 matches. However, he is closely followed by Wanindu Hasaranga with 24 wickets at the second spot. With both these teams in the playoffs, any of the two spinners can take the Purple Cap home this season.
Kagiso Rabada ranks third with 23 wickets in 13 matches. However, Punjab Kings finished on the 6th spot in the points table and have been eliminated from the competition and the bowler won't feature in any more matches this season.
Best Economy (min. 10 overs bowled)
Kolkata Knight Riders' spinner Sunil Narine had the best economy in IPL 2022 group stage matches. The right arm off-spin maintained an economy of 5.57, picking up 9 wickets.
R Sai Kishore ranks second on this list with an economy of 5.80 in 10 overs, picking up 3 wickets. Lucknow Super Giants young pacer Mohsin Khan ranks third with an economy of 5.93 with 13 wickets to his name in 8 matches.
Most Catches by Fielders
Riyan Parag of Rajasthan Royals took the most catches in the season, completing 15 catches in 14 innings.
The all-rounder is followed by Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Dhawan, Rovman Powell, Tilak Varma & Kane Williamson, with 10 catches each to their names. Mayank & Kane completed 10 catches in 13 innings while the rest completed the same number of catches in 14 matches.
Most Catches by Wicket-Keepers
Mumbai Indians' opener & wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan took the most catches as wicket-keeper in the IPL 2022, completing 13 catches in 14 innings. However, Mumbai Indians finished last on the points table for the first time and failed it to make it to the playoffs.

Rajasthan Royals captain & wicketkeeper Sanju Samson ranks second with 12 catches in 14 innings while Lucknow Super Giants captain Quinton de Kock on the third spot with 11 catches in 14 innings. Both these players will have a chance in the playoffs to rise up this leaderboard.
