IPL Stats: Most Sixes By Batters In The History Of IPL

The most extravagant domestic T20 league in the world, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to return to India for its 15th season. The first match will be played between Chennai Super Kings & Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26th at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. 

T20 is a batter-dominated format, where batters look to score runs at a higher run rate to strengthen the team's chance of winning the match. To score quick runs, batters opt to go for boundaries and especially sixes. 

Here are the top 5 batters with the most sixes in the history of IPL. 


#5. Kieron Pollard (214 sixes)

West Indies captain and one of T20 greats, Kieron Pollard has smacked 214 sixes in 178 IPL matches he has played. Pollard has registered 3,268 runs to his name with 16 fifties while playing for Mumbai Indians since IPL 2010. The 34-year old was retained by MI and will be seen once again playing for Mumbai. 


#4. MS Dhoni (219 sixes)

Former Indian captain and 4-time IPL winning captain MS Dhoni comes 3rd on this list of batters with most sixes in the history of IPL. Dhoni has smacked 219 sixes in 220 matches, registering 4,746 runs with 23 fifties while playing for two teams in his IPL career - Chennai Super Kings & Rising Pune Supergiants. 


#3. Rohit Sharma (227 sixes)

Indian captain and IPL's most successful captain with 5 IPL trophies, Rohit Sharma has smacked 227 sixes in 213 IPL matches. Sharma has 5,611 runs to his name with 40 fifties and a century in the IPL. Rohit Sharma has played for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians in the IPL and will be captaining the MI side in the IPL 2022. 


#2. AB de Villiers (251 sixes)

South African legend batter AB de Villiers has smacked 251 sixes in 184 matches and has an average of 39.70 striking at 151.68 before he retired from the IPL in the last season. AB de Villiers has played for 2 franchises in his IPL career - started with Delhi Daredevils and was then acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011.


#1. Chris Gayle (357 sixes)
