Prasidh Krishna - Some Known & Unknown Facts About The New Indian Pace Sensation

With a new batch of fast bowlers coming in for the limited-overs format, Prasidh Krishna was handed a spot which he capitalized by being the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded India vs West Indies ODI series. The 25-year old celebrates his birthday on February 19th, let's have a look at some known and unknown facts about the Bangalore-born pacer. 


1. Prasidh Krishna made his List A debut against a touring Bangladesh team after Karnataka lost its main bowlers due to injury. Krishna picked up a wicket off the first ball he bowled in this match, which was his first ball in his List A career, dismissing Ronu Talukdar. 


2. Krishna impressed everyone with his bowling in the first innings as he picked up 5 wickets giving away just 49 runs which put the Ranji champions ahead against an international side. 


3. The pacer finally caught eyes with his tremendous performance for Karnataka in the 2017-18 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The pacer picked up 17 wickets in 8 games, and remained as the highest wicket-taker for Karnataka and second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, with a match-winning spell of 3/37 against Saurashtra in the finals. 


4. Before playing for KKR, Prasidh Krishna was a net bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 2018 however, he was named as a replacement for the injured pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti by the Kolkata Knight Riders. Krishna didn't disappoint as he picked up 10 wickets in 7 matches, with a four-fer against Sunrisers Hyderabad. 


5. The bowler made his international debut for India on March 23rd, 2021 against England, where he broke a 24-year old record with his bowling. Krishna recorded 8.1-1-54-4 in the match and became the first Indian player to pick up 4 wickets on debut, beating the previous best of Noel David's 3/21 against West Indies in 1997 at Port of Spain. 


6. Prasidh took important wickets on his international debut, that of Jason Roy (46), Ben Stokes (1), Sam Billings (18) and Tom Curran (11). He could've finished with a five-for but Kohli dropped Mogan's catch at the slips. 


7. Prasidh Krishna, who was brought in as a replacement for an uncapped player in the IPL 2018, was sold for a groundbreaking sum of Rs. 10 crores INR in the IPL auction 2022, acquired by Rajasthan Royals.
