Stats: Lowest Totals In India vs Sri Lanka Test Matches

IND v SL: Team India is set to take on Sri Lanka in a 2-match test series at home, for the first time under the able leadership of Rohit Sharma in red-ball cricket. India already whitewashed West Indies and Sri Lanka in limited over series and would be high on confidence to win the test series as well. 

As we approach the 2-match test series, let's have a look at the lowest totals scored between India and Sri Lanka in tests.

#5. India (172, Kolkata 2017)

In the 1st test match at Kolkata in 2017, India were bowled out for 172 in the first innings after being asked to bat first. For Sri Lanka, Suranga Lakmal was the best bowler with 4 wickets to his name. Apart from Lakmal, Lahiru Gamage, Dasun Shanaka and Dilruwan Perera picked up 2 wickets each. For India, Cheteshwar Pujara remained the highest scorer with 52 runs, while none of the other batters could cross the 30-run mark. The match ultimately ended in a draw.


#4. Sri Lanka (166, Nagpur 2017)

The second test at Nagpur in 2017 saw India's dominance over the neighbours Sri Lanka. The tourists were restricted to 205 in the first innings, after which India went on to declare their innings on 610/6. Sri Lanka in reply were bowled out for a total of 166 runs as Ravi Ashwin picked up 4 wickets, while the other 3 Indian bowlers - Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav picked up 2 wickets each.


#3. Sri Lanka (135, Pallekele 2017)

Sri Lanka were yet again dismissed for a low total, this time at home. After opting to bat first, team India posted 487 on the board in the first innings. Sri Lanka in reply were bowled out for 135. For India, wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets. Ravi Ashwin and Mohammad Shami picked up 2 wickets each while Hardik Pandya managed a scalp to his name. India won this match by an innings and 171 runs. 


#2. Sri Lanka (134, Colombo (PSS) 2015)

Another low score for Sri Lanka against India, and at home. In the 2nd test at Colombo (PSS) in 2015, India posted 393 after opting to bat first. Sri Lanka replied with 306, and India declared their second innings on 325/8, setting a target of 412. The Lankan batting collapsed under the pressure and were restricted to 134 in the fourth innings. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 5 wickets, Amit Mishra grabbed 3 while Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma managed 1 wicket each.

This list starts and concludes with team India's scores. In the 1st test at Galle in 2015, a match where Sri Lanka scripted a historic comeback. The hosts were bowled out for 183 after opting to bat first. India replied with 375 in the second innings, building a lead 192 runs. However, Lankans made a comeback as they posted 367 runs in the 3rd innings, setting a target of 176 runs for the Indians to win. However, Sri Lanka spinner Ranga Herath dismantled the Indian batting with his 7 wickets, as India were halted to a total of 112 runs, losing the match by 63 runs.
