Special: India's first One Day International Match
August 20 (CRICKETNMORE) - The two times World Cup Champions - India played their first ever ODI against England in 1974 at Headingley in Leeds. It was on the 1974 tour of England, when India made their ODI debut against on 13th July.
India lost their debut match but their performance was way above the expectations specially in the batting. Present below are the highlights of the match:

# England Captain Michael Denness won the toss and opted to field. Ajit Wadekar was leading the Indian side.

# Brijesh Patel (82 off 78 balls), Captain Ajit Wadekar (67 off 82 balls) scored half centuries whereas Farrukh Engineer (32), Sunil Gavaskar (28) also contributed with the bat. Chris Old took 3 wickets while GG Arnold, RD Jackman, RA Woolmer took 2 wickets each.

# England won the 55 overs a side game quite comfortably reaching the victory target with 6 wickets down and 23 balls to spare. J Edrich scored match winning 90 from 97 balls. A Greg (40), K Fletcher (39), D Llyod (34) were other contributors with the bat. For India, Eknath Solkar and Bishen Singh Bedi took 2 wickets each.
# JH Edrich (England) was awarded player of the match for his well played 90.
