Sunrisers Hyderabad joined IPL in 2013 after Deccan Chargers were terminated post 2012 season. They have been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL since then. Even though they've played just 8 seasons, they already have a title to their name which they won in 2016 under the captaincy of David Warner.

Since then, SRH has been consistent in making it to the playoffs. Last year as well, they managed to turn things around after defeating the top 3 teams of the season and stormed their way into the playoffs. They knocked RCB out in the Eliminator before losing to Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2.

This year, SRH would be eyeing to win the IPL title with almost the same squad as last season.

  • SRH also holds the record of dismissing the opponent team under 100 runs most number of times in IPL – three.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's IPL Journey

  • 2013: Won 10 and lost 7 matches, finished 4th after reaching the playoffs in their maiden season.
  • 2014: Won 6 and lost 8 matches, finished 6th.
  • 2015: Won 7 and lost 7 matches, finished 6th in the tournament.
  • 2016: Won 11 and lost 6 matches, won their maiden IPL trophy after defeating RCB in the final.
  • 2017: Won 8 and lost 6 matches, finished 4th in the final league standings after getting defeated by KKR in Qualifier 2.
  • 2018: Won 10 and lost 7 matches finished as runners-up after getting defeated by CSK in the final.
  • 2019: Won 6 and lost 9 matches, finished 4th in the final league standings after getting defeated by Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2.
  • 2020: Won 8 and lost 7 matches, finished 3rd in the final league standings after getting defeated by Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2.

SRH’s strength this season would be its top order. It has one of the most destructive top-order lineups in the IPL 2021. Warner has been consistent with his scoring in the IPL. Last year, SRH opened with Wriddhiman Saha who had performed well in that position. It would be hard to choose between Bairstow & Saha to be Warner's opening partner. Then there are Kane Williamson, Jason Roy & Manish Pandey, who are all proven match-winners.

Sunrisers Hyderabad doesn't have a solid middle-order which can be a weakness. No team can rely on only the top 3 to score and win every match. The likes of Abhishek Sharma, Priyam Garg, Virat Singh & Abdul Samad have to step up and score consistently which they haven't done in the past.

There's an opportunity present for the two Indian seasoned domestic all-rounders to step up and prove their worth. Vijay Shankar who was deemed as the next big thing by many experts, and J Suchith who was a star all-rounder for Mumbai Indians before Krunal Pandya joined the franchise, will have a chance to perform well and make their way into the National team.

Injury concerns are the biggest threat for SRH this season.

Former Purple Cap winner Bhuvneshwar Kumar gets injured quite frequently. Wriddhiman Saha missed playing in the Qualifier 2 last year due to injuries.
