Pakistan Name Unchanged Playing Eleven For Clash Against India

In what comes across as a sign of confidence, Pakistan have named an unchanged playing eleven for the highly-anticipated Asia Cup clash against India to be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Pakistan playing XI: Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Agha Salman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf

India Have Strongest Lineup Since 2011 But Pakistan Are Very Improved Side, Says Ravi Shastri

Former India cricketer and ex-head coach Ravi Shastri believes that Rohit Sharma's team has the upper hand in the upcoming Asia Cup game against Pakistan. However, he acknowledged that Babar Azam-led side has significantly improved and has "closed the gap" with the Indian team in recent times.

"I would say India start as favourites. This is their strongest team since 2011, this mix of players. And a captain who is seasoned, who understands the terrain better than most.

"Having said that, Pakistan have narrowed the gap. Seven-eight years [ago], there was a gap if you looked at the strength of both teams and man to man. But Pakistan have narrowed it down. They are a very good side, so you have to be on top of your game," Shastri said.

Shastri also feels that in high-voltage clashes like India vs Pakistan, a player's temperament carries greater significance than the current form, which makes the real difference.

Learned a lot from India's Kohli, says Pakistan skipper Azam

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam on Friday said a pep talk by India's cricket superstar Virat Kohli at the start of his career helped him a lot.

Asked about comparisons between the two batsmen, the 28-year-old Azam said: "I can't comment on the debate. Let's leave that to (the fans)."

"There should be mutual respect. He is older than me and I respect him. I have learned a lot from him," he said.

"I have said earlier that when I started (international cricket) I spoke to him and it helped me a lot."

India ready for Pakistan's pace test in Asia Cup - Rohit Sharma

India skipper Rohit Sharma on Friday said his team's experienced batsmen were unfazed by the threat of Pakistan's fast bowlers, ahead of the arch-rivals' blockbuster Asia Cup clash.

Rohit's side will play their opening match of the tournament against Pakistan on Saturday in Pallekele, the first of three potential clashes between the bitter rivals in Sri Lanka.

The captain praised the Pakistan quicks but said his team was ready for the challenge.

"We don't have Shaheen, Naseem and Rauf in the nets," Rohit joked.

"So we practise with the bowlers that we have. But these three are quality bowlers and have performed well in the last few years."

"Pakistan have always had quality bowlers," he added. "Their strength, where they bowl and not bowl, we have seen all that. We will use our years of experience to play against them, as simple as that."

If India Does Not Lose Early Wickets, It Is Their Game Saya Sanjay Manjrekar

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar advised the Indian top-order batter to not lose their wicket in the first ten overs and to respect the bowlers at the Asia Cup and World Cup 2023. He also drew attention to Test cricket batting style and advised to stay long at the crease.

"See, fortunately for India, number one, two, and three, when Virat bats at number three, they are three very good test batters. And you might talk about 50 overs being a one-day match and white-ball cricket and all that, but the start of a 50 overs game is not like a T20 match.”

"I think there are some serious Test cricket skills needed, and then Rohit Sharma got these five hundreds in the last World Cup,” he added.
