India are set to take on Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on December 7th (11:30 AM onwards).
IND vs BAN 2nd ODI Match Preview:
Team India are coming in from a close defeat in the 1st ODI. After the batting unit failed to even cross the 200-run mark, the bowlers brought the game back in India's favour for a while until Mehidy Hasan Miraz took it away.
The star-studded Indian top order failed to accustom to the Dhaka condition as well as the 50-over format, after playing the shorter format majorly for the last 2 years. While captain Rohit Sharma managed to smash 4 fours and a six for his 27-run knock, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli failed to reach the double-digit mark.
Shreyas Iyer is looking good at #4 as he scored 24 runs with 2 boundaries before getting done by Ebadot Hossain, while KL Rahul, showed why he's the best option at #5. Rahul remained the top scorer with 73 runs off 70 balls. Shahbaz Ahmed and Deepak Chahar were dismissed for a duck and would be expecting to come out better in the 2nd ODI if the need arises again.
The bowling impressed while defending a low total – which started with Deepak Chahar getting a wicket on the first ball of the innings. India did well to take wickets at regular intervals to reduce Bangladesh to 136/9 in 40 overs. Mohammed Siraj was the top wicket-taker with 3 wickets to his name.
Debutant Kuldeep Sen had a rather bad start to his debut as he was the only bowler to have an economy of higher than 6 in the match for India, but managed 2 wickets in his 2nd spell to take home his first ODI wicket. Kuldeep bowled only 5 overs of the match, and Washington Sundar, who also picked up 2 wickets bowled only 5 overs.
Whereas Shahbaz Ahmed went wicketless in his 8 overs. All-rounders Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur also managed 1 wicket each.
For Bangladesh, even though the top and middle order managed to get starts, none of the batters except Litton Das (41) were able to cross the 30-run mark. Bangladesh suffered a collapse in batting as they went from 74/3 to 136/9 in a space of 20 overs. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has also opened in T20s, smacked an unbeaten 38 runs off 39 balls while batting at #8 to take Bangladesh across the victory line.
Amongst the bowlers, experienced spinner Shakib Al Hasan and pacer Ebadot Hossain were impressive as they picked up 9 wickets between them. Shakib was very effective in his 10 overs, as he removed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in his first over of the spell. Ebadot on the other hand troubled the dangerous-looking Shreyas Iyer and top scorer KL Rahul and managed to dismiss them before achieving a big score.
Mustafizur Rahman was pretty economical in his bowling, and even though went wicketless created pressure on the batters to take on other bowlers and give away their wickets. Rahman bowled 7 overs as he conceded just 19 runs with 1 maiden. Hasan Mahmud went for 40 runs in his 7 overs without a wicket while Mehidy Hasan Miraz grabbed the first wicket in the form of Shikhar Dhawan in the 6th over.
