After captain Rohit Sharma was rested, Virat Kohli came out to open the innings with KL Rahul. These two etched the highest opening partnership for India in this Asia Cup, adding 119 runs in 12.4 overs for the first wicket. KL Rahul was dismissed in the 13th over by Fareed Ahmad after scoring 62 runs off 41 balls with 6 fours & 2 sixes.
Suryakumar Yadav dispatched the first ball he faced for a six, and was dismissed on the next delivery by Fareed Ahmad. Rishabh Pant then played an ordinary knock of 20 runs in 16 balls with 3 fours. Virat Kohli however, batted throughout the 20 overs, and remained unbeaten on 122 runs off 61 balls with 12 fours & 6 sixes, striking at 200.
Due to this knock, India posted the highest total in the Asia Cup 2022 by any team. For Afghanistan, Fareed Ahmad was the sole wicket-taker with 2 wickets but conceded 57 runs.
