In the final of 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup, Australia comfortably beat India by 125 runs at New Wanderer’s Stadium, Johannesburg. Australia clinch their third World Cup title and second world cup title in a row.

Apart from winning the toss, nothing went in favour of India. Opting to field first, Indian bolwers failed to control Australian batting led by captain Ricky Ponting who scored an unbeaten 140*. Other contributors were Damien Martyn (88*), Mathew Hayden (57) and Adam Gilchrist (37). Australia scored 359/2 in 50 overs, the highest total ever made in the history of World Cup finals.

Indian team were bowled out for just 234 in 39.2 overs against some quality Australian bowling. Apart from Sehwag (82 from 81 balls) & Dravid (47) no other Indian batsman was able to score. India lost the match by a whopping margin of 125 runs.
