Prior to the T20 World Cup 2022, team India received a big blow. According to a report by news agency PTI, team India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup. However, an official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

According to sources, Bumrah's injury doesn't require surgery, but it'd easily take him 4-6 months to recover. The pacer was also rested for the 1st T20I against South Africa on Wednesday (28th September).

Earlier, star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja was also ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a knee injury he sustained during Asia Cup 2022. With key players missing, team India's dreams of lifting the T20 World Cup after 15 years has suffered a massive setback.

Bumrah returned to professional cricket in the 2nd T20I against Australia after staying out of action. The Indian pacer picked up a wicket in his comeback match as he dismissed Aaron Finch in an 8-over per side match.

Jasprit Bumrah's comeback can be seen as a rushed return, as the 28-year-old complained of pain in his back while practising and withdrew from all the training drills. However, the damage had already been done. The ace pacer missed the 1st T20I against Australia and after playing 2 matches, decided to sit out the first T20I against South Africa.

In this scenario, Mohammad Shami or Deepak Chahar, who were named as backup players for the T20 World Cup, may make their place in the playing XI. Mohammad Siraj can also be named as the backup player in this case.
