Answering a fan on Twitter regarding India's opening issues, which has risen after the reports of Shubman Gill being injured, Hogg named Shaw ahead of KL Rahul as the top candidate to replace the Pujara.

If anyone was going to replace Pujara it would be Prithvi Shaw. Feel he is more suited there than opening. Has a lot of talent and long future. He is not in the tour group but a wild card choice. #EngvIND https://t.co/8wEF82aq1A

Pujara's place in the test team has come under scanner after his ordinary returns in the last few months and him not scoring a century since January 2019. The 33-year-old scored 8 off 54 and 15 from 80 balls in the WTC Finals, which India lost to New Zealand last month.
There have been reports suggesting that Prithvi Shaw could be flown to England as Gill's replacement for the upcoming test series against England, which starts from 4th August.
Shaw is currently in Sri Lanka with an Indian squad led by Shikhar Dhawan and Rahul Dravid for a limited-overs series, that starts from 13th July.
