Resuming the session at 10/1, R Ashwin removed Pathum Nissanka soon for six runs. Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews tried to stabilize the inning as India attacked through spinners.

The duo added 26 runs in 54 balls Mohammad Shami removed Karunaratne with a beauty. It seemed that Sri Lankan batting will once again collapse but Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva got stuck at the crease.
In the next 102 balls, the pair added 49 runs as Indian bowlers couldn't find anything from the conditions. Things once again changed Ravindra Jadeja finally found the leading edge of de Silva to get the breakthrough.
Charith Asalanka came at the crease in the last 15 minutes before the tea and attacked. He smacked 20 runs in 7 balls including two fours and two sixes as Sri Lanka went into the tea with 120/4 at the scoreboard.
