Resuming at the overnight score of 86/6, Bumrah struck immediately in the third over of the day as he bounced out Lasith Embuldeniya. In the next over, R Ashwin got Suranga Lakmal out with a beautiful carrom ball.

Two balls later, Bumrah removed the last recognized batter Niroshan Dickwella for 21 and registered his first fifer in India - eighth overall. Ashwin got Vishwa Fernando stumped in the next over as Sri Lanka got bowled out for 109, giving India a 143-run lead.

In reply, Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma were attacked through spin right from the beginning. While Mayank started safely, Rohit tried to play his shots as the duo added 42 runs.

Mayank finally edged one to the slips after scoring 22 runs. The spinning track kept the Sri Lankans interested but Rohit Sharma and Hanuma Vihari continued to score actively. The duo survived a few close calls but kept looking for runs. Rohit ran out of luck when he was on 46 as he stepped down the track to smash a six only to get caught at the boundary.

Three overs later, Vihari too got out trying to sweep Praveen Jayawickrama. Two overs later, Jayawickrama struck again and trapped Virat Kohli in front. Kohli got out for 13 which also resulted in his test average falling below 50 for the first time since 2017.

The pitch was turning and had uneven bounce but not for Rishabh Pant. The Indian wicketkeeper didn't care for the pitch and went after the spinners right from the ball one. Pant smashed the fastest test fifty by an Indian as reached the milestone in 28 balls - breaking the record of Kapil Dev's 30-ball fifty 40 years ago.

Pant danced down the track again but mistimed the ball to get caught. Shreyas Iyer continued from where he left yesterday and looked solid along with Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. The duo added 63 runs for the sixth wicket.

Jadeja got out scoring 22 but Ashwin decided to spend some time at the crease as Shreyas continued to toil with the Sri Lankan bowlers as reached fifty for the second time in this test.

Ashwin got out scoring 13 and in the next over, Shreyas was undone by Embuldeniya at the score of 67. Mohammad Shami came and smacked 16 runs in eight balls to get India cross the 300-run mark before Axar Patel was bowled and Rohit Sharma called them back.

Being set up a target of 447 runs, Sri Lanka lost Lahiru Thirimanne in the first over as Bumrah struck early. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis safely took Sri Lanka to the end of the day without losing a further wicket.

The visitors need 419 runs while India need nine wickets to win the match, which still has three days left.
