Iyer had got a great start and continued with the momentum while Sanju Samson took his time to find his rhythm. Shreyas took on every bowler and slowly Samson also got into the act as the two added 84 runs in 47 balls for the third wicket.

Sri Lanka got a breakthrough in the form of Samson, courtesy of a stunning catch by Binura Fernando. However, Ravindra Jadeja continued where Sanju left and smacked 45 runs in just 18 balls to finish the game for India in 17.1 overs.

Earlier, Pathum Nissanka and Dasun Shanaka powered Sri Lanka to 183/5 in the first innings.

On being asked to bat first, Sri Lanka started slowly in the powerplay, scoring 32 but didn't lose any wicket. The acceleration began gradually when the spinners arrived but it was Ravindra Jadeja who got India the breakthrough in the 9th over in the form of Danushka Gunathalika.

There was a middle-order collapse that slowed down Sri Lanka's progress but then arrived Shanaka. Nissanka and the Sri Lankan captain smacked 58 runs in 26 balls for the fifth wicket to get the team to a competitive total. Nissanka scored 75 before getting out in the 19th over.

Shanaka took the strike in the last over and smashed Harshal Patel for 23 runs to get Sri Lanka to 183.
