IND vs NZ Stats Preview: Records That Can Be Made In The Upcoming ODI Series
Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have a chance to create records as India gets set to host New Zealand for 3-match ODI series at home.
IND vs NZ: Team India are set to host New Zealand for a 3-match ODI series, starting from January 18th (Wednesday) in Hyderabad. Team India are coming in with momentum as they clean-swept neighbours Sri Lanka 3-0 in the recently concluded ODI series, while the Kiwis are also full of confidence after a 2-1 ODI series against Pakistan in Pakistan.
While India are in seemingly good shape, with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli firing in the top order, New Zealand would be worried given they would be without their captain Kane Williamson and vice-captain Tim Southee in this series. The Kiwi team will be led by Tom Latham.

Ahead of the 3-match series between India and New Zealand, let's take a look at records that can be made or broken in the upcoming series.
1. Most Centuries against New Zealand in ODIs – Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli smacked two centuries in the 3-match series against Sri Lanka. If the ace batter manages to do the same against New Zealand, he will have the most centuries by any batter against New Zealand in ODIs. Kohli will overtake legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya and Virender Sehwag to achieve this feat.
2. Sixth batter to cross the 25,000 run mark in international cricket – Virat Kohli
If Virat Kohli manages to score 119 runs in the ODI series against New Zealand, the ace batter will become only the 6th batter ever to cross the 25,000-run mark in international cricket. Kohli currently has 24,881 runs to his name in 543 innings, averaging 53.97 with 74 centuries to his name. None of the batters who have scored 25,000 or more runs in international cricket have an average of 50 or above. The 34-year-old has scored 8,119 runs in Tests, 12,754 runs in ODIs and 4,008 runs in T20Is.
3. Ninth Indian Bowler to reach 400 international wickets – Mohammed Shami
Ace Indian pacer Mohammed Shami currently has 395 international wickets to his name, and with 5 more wickets in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, the pacer can become only the 9th Indian bowler to reach 400 international wickets across all formats. Shami has 216 wickets in Tests, 155 wickets in ODIs and 24 wickets in T20Is.
4. Top 10 wicket takers for India in ODIs – Mohammed Shami
With 3 more wickets in the upcoming series against New Zealand, Mohammed Shami will overtake Manoj Prabhakar to become the 10th-highest wicket-taker for India in ODIs. The pacer currently has 155 wickets to his name while Prabhakar has 157 wickets to his name.
5. Second fastest overall and fastest Indian to 1,000 ODI – Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill currently has 894 runs to his name in 18 ODIs. If the opener scores 106 more runs in the first ODI, the 23-year-old will become the joint 2nd fastest batter in the world to reach 1,000 ODI runs along with Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq.
However, if Gill doesn't manage to reach 1,000 runs in the first ODI, and reaches the landmark in the 2nd or 3rd ODI, he will still become the fastest Indian to reach the landmark. Currently, the record is jointly held by Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli.
