After clean sweeping the Kiwis 3-0 in the ODI series, team India were floored in the 1st T20I by the visitors. The top order was dismissed in single-digit scores, while Suryakumar Yadav took 34 balls to score his 47 runs. Washington Sundar was the top scorer with 50 runs off 28 balls, while none of the other batters managed to cross the 30-run mark. 

Arshdeep Singh was very expensive in his 4 overs as he gave away 51 runs for just 1 wicket. Sundar was efficient with the ball as well as he picked up 2 wickets for just 22 runs in his 4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Shivam Mavi managed 1 wicket each while Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda and Umran Malik went wicketless. 

For New Zealand, first Devon Conway and then Daryl Mitchell were the stars with the bat as these two etched a half-century each. Conway scored 52 runs off 35 balls while Daryl Mitchell, batting at #5, scored an unbeaten 59 runs off 30 balls. Opener Finn Allen contributed with 35 runs off 23 balls as well. 

It was spin to win for New Zealand as captain Mitchell Santner picked up 2 important wickets at crucial junctures of the match. Michael Bracewell and Lockie Ferguson also managed 2 wickets each while Jacob Duffy and Ish Sodhi registered 1 wicket each.
