This will be the third time the two nations will meet in the knock-out match of any ICC ODI tournament. India turned to be the winner on both the previous occassions (1996 & 2011).

On previous two occasions, matches were played in India. The Champions Trophy 2017 final match will be played in England and first time India and Pakistan will meet on neutral ground in the knockout phase of ICC ODI tournament.
Also, for the first time the two team will play against each other in the final of ICC ODI tournament. On previous two occassions, it was a quarter-final (1996) and semi-final (2011).
For the first time, the two teams will play for more than once in the same tournament. India had already won the group match against Pakistan in Champions Trophy 2017.
