Avesh Khan's four-wicket haul helped Lucknow Super Giants defend 170 runs and beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs in the 12th match of the IPL 2022 at Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium.

Chasing 170, SRH lost both openers - Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma - inside the powerplay to Avesh Khan and only scored 40 runs in the first six overs. Rahul Tripathi showed intent post powerplay and added 44 runs with Aiden Markram.

Markram couldn't contribute much and got out on 12. Tripathi soon followed after scoring 44 in 30 balls with the help of five fours and a six. 

Nicholas Pooran and Washington Sundar added 48 runs in 26 balls to take the match close. Pooran looked solid during his 34-run knock in 24 balls and so did Sundar, who made 18 in 14 balls. 

But it was Avesh's 18th over that changed the SRH momentum as he removed both Pooran and Abdul Samad on consecutive deliveries. Needing 16 in the final over, Jason Holder picked three wickets and restricted SRH to 157/9 in 20 overs. 

Earlier, Half-centuries from KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda took Super Giants to 169/7 in the first inning. 

On being asked to bat first, Lucknow got off to a poor start as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay and only scored 32 runs.

Rahul and Hooda added 87 runs in 62 balls for the fourth wicket. Hooda was the aggressor among the two, as he scored 51 in 33 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes. 

Rahul continued till the 18th over and scored 68 in 50 balls and get LSG past the 150-run mark. Ayush Badoni made 19 to finish the inning. 

For SRH, Washington Sundar, Romario Shepherd, and T Natarajan took two wickets each.
