All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has resigned from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captaincy midseason in the ongoing IPL 2022. Jadeja wants to focus on his deteriorating game, due to which he has decided to leave the captaincy. Jadeja also requested MS Dhoni to lead the side, to which Dhoni agreed so that the all-rounder can focus on his game.

It is noteworthy that MS Dhoni decided to leave CSK captaincy just prior to the start of IPL 2022, after which Jadeja, who was retained for 16 crores INR was appointed as the captain of the Chennai-based franchise.

Talking about this season, Ravindra Jadeja has failed to perform with both bat & ball Chennai Super Kings are placed on the 9th spot with only 2 wins in 8 matches, and an NRR of -0.538. Jadeja has scored mere 112 runs in 8 matches this season, averaging 22.40 at a strike rate of 121.74. 

With the ball, Jadeja has bowled a total of 26 overs in 8 matches and has given away 213 runs at an economy of 8.19, picking up 5 wickets. With numbers like these, it is understandable for a player to leave the leadership role and focus on his batting. It is also noteworthy that while Jadeja was retained for 16 crores INR, the 4-time IPL winning captain MS Dhoni was retained at a lesser price of 12 crores INR.

"Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK," the franchise said in a statement released on Twitter.

"MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,". 

Chennai Super Kings will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad next on 1st May, Sunday at MCA Stadium, Pune.
