The first hat trick of the T20 World Cup 2022 has already been registered in Round 1. In the match between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, 22-year-old bowler Karthik Meiyappan has scripted history. In the 15th over, Kartik Meiyappan picked up wickets on the 4th, 5th and 6th delivery. On the 4th delivery, Meiyappan dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Meiyappan delivered the bowl outside the off stump and got rid of Rajapaksa.

In an effort to hit a big six, Bhanuka Rajapaksa missed out and the fielder situated in the deep grabbed an easy catch. After this, Kartik Meiyappan delivered a googly on 14.5 over, which Charith Asalanka failed to read and was clean bowled. 14.6 was the delivery where Meiyappan was on the verge of scripting history.

Kartik Meiyappan clean bowled Dasun Shanaka to complete the hat-trick. Meiyappan delivered a wrong un on 78 KPH which the Lankan batter failed to read and was clean bowled. Kartik Meiyappan bowled beautifully in the match as he conceded just 19 runs in 4 overs for his three wickets.

While talking about the match, UAE captain CP Rizwan won the toss & opted to bowl first against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka posted 153 runs for 8 wickets while batting first. UAE now need 154 runs to win the match.
