The International Cricket Council: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Monday that Kumar Dharmasena and Nitin Menon will be the on-field umpires for the opening match of the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.
The England-New Zealand group stage clash in 2023 is a repeat of the unforgettable final in 2019 where England edged New Zealand narrowly at Lord’s on the boundary count-back rule. Dharmasena and Menon will be joined by TV umpire Paul Wilson, fourth umpire Shahid Saikat and match referee Javagal Srinath.
Menon, who hails from host nation India, is the youngest umpire at the tournament at 39, and is joined by Shahid, Ahsan Raza, Adrian Holdstock, Wharf and Chris Brown in making their Men’s ODI World Cup debut.
