After CSK were at 102/5 in 14.5 overs while chasing 156, MS Dhoni came out to bat when his team required 54 runs in 31 balls. Starting off cautiously, MS was at 5 runs in 5 balls when the 17th over started. Chennai required another 42 runs to win in the remaining 18 balls. Dhoni smacked a four against Unadkat in the 18th over while Pretorius smacked a six.

In the 19th over, Pretorious smacked two more fours against Jasprit Bumrah. With 17 needed off the last over, Pretorious, who had smacked 22 runs in 13 balls with 2 fours and a six, was dismissed on the first ball of the last over by Jaydev Unadkat.

DJ Bravo came out to bat and took a single on the first delivery he faced. With 16 runs required off 4 balls, Dhoni came on strike. Mahi smacked a six on the next delivery, bringing down the equation to 10 runs in 3 balls. The next ball was dispatched for a four by MS and followed it up with a double. 

With 4 runs required off the last ball, Unadkat delivered a low full toss in an attempt to deliver a yorker. MS Dhoni chopped it away fine and no fielder on the leg-side could stop the ball going for a four. 

With the defending champions, Chennai managed to win their 2nd match in the 7 matches they have played this season, while Mumbai Indians have remained win-less with 7 consecutive defeats.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings captain Ravindra Jadeja won the toss & opted to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in the 33rd match of IPL 2022. This match was played at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
