However, young guns Dewald Brevis and Tilak Verma counter-attacked, adding 84 runs in 41 balls for the third wicket to keep MI in the run chase. Brevis smacked 49 in 25 balls, including scoring 29 runs in one Rahul Chahar over. Tilak made 36 in 20 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes.

It all went down to Suryakumar Yadav once again who lost his two partners in runout - Tilak and Kieron Pollard. With MI playing only six specialist batters, Jaydev Unadkat walked in at number seven to support Surya.

Suryakumar made 43 in 30 balls but got out in the penultimate over trying to whack Kagiso Rabada for a six. With 22 needing in the final over, Odean Smith was given the responsibility and despite getting hit for a six on the first ball, the West Indian picked three wickets in the remaining five balls as Punjab won the match by 12 runs.

Earlier, Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan powered PBKS to 198/5 in the first inning.

Mayank smacked 52 in 32 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes while Dhawan made 70 in 50 balls including five fours and three sixes. The duo stitched 97 runs for the opening wicket in 9.3 overs.

Jitesh Sharma's unbeaten 30 in 15 balls and Shahrukh Khan hitting 15 in six balls provided a perfect finish for Punjab.
