NZ vs IND 2nd T20I: Match Preview:

Trending

After being defeated by Pakistan in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022, New Zealand have left no stone unturned in their squad for the 3-match T20I home series against India. Only one regular - Martin Guptill has been dropped while Trent Boult, who earlier opted out of a central contract for New Zealand, will also be missing this series.

Courtesy of a freak knock of 42 runs in just 24 balls in the big win against Australia in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2022, Finn Allen has made his way to the New Zealand team for the series against India. Glenn Phillips has been the best batter for New Zealand this year in T20Is, scoring 650 runs at a strike rate of 155.13 with an average of 46.42. Conway has also been consistent this year with 484 runs at an average of 48.40. Finn Allen has scored 408 runs this year while striking at 157.52.

Spinner Ish Sodhi has been the top wicket-taker for New Zealand in T20Is in 2022 with 26 scalps to his name in 20 matches. With Trent Boult missing, right-arm medium-fast bowler Blair Tickner has been given a place in the squad. Tim Southee, Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson and Tickner complete the pace bowling unit for the series against India and would look to dominate the young Indian batters in home conditions.

On the other hand, team India has rested several regular players after the T20 World Cup 2022. Seemingly, Hardik Pandya is being groomed for the T20 captaincy and will be leading the team in the T20I series against New Zealand. While several young names, who have been desperate for a chance to play for team India - Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer, would be eager to prove their worth in tough New Zealand conditions.

Suryakumar Yadav, currently the #1 T20I batter, has been in blazing form this year and has maintained a tremendous strike rate of 185.71 in 29 T20I matches he has played this year. Deepak Hooda also has registered a T20I century this year and it'll be exciting to see the performance of these Indian batters, who would in all probability feature in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Fast bowler Umran Malik has returned to the Indian side and is expected to display his fiery pace in the 3-match series. IPL 2021's best bowler Harshal Patel is also included in the squad along with experience swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar and young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. Mohammed Siraj is also included in the team, completing the fast bowling department for team India. The spin department on the other hand will once again feature the wrist spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, assisted by all-rounder and off-spinner Washington Sundar.
