Pakistan lost two early wickets, with both openers failed to reach double figures. However, a brilliant partnership between veteran Younis Khan and Azhar Ali provided much needed stabilty to the team. The partnership of 108 runs ended when Azhar departed after scoring 53 but Younis Khan continued his inning with skipper Misbah and scored his 25th test century. Johnson dismissed Younis Khan soon after his century with an incoming delivery that struck his back-leg.

Misbah battled his way to stumps in the company of Shafiq with the latter surviving a few scares as well. Johnson was terrific for the Aussies with his pace and swing unsettling the Pakistan batsmen. Johnson was the most successful of the lot taking 3/22 from his 20 overs.

This was Younis' first hundred against Australia, making him the first Pakistani and 12th batsmen overall to score a hundred against all Test opponents. It was his 25th Test hundred, equalling Pakistan's record held by Inzamam-ul-Haq. "The feeling is very nice, it's an honour and I feel proud to become the first Pakistani to score against all countries," said Younis after the day's play ended.
