The 35-year-old had a decent career but never got to cement his place in the side due to the arrival of MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik in the Indian set-up at the same time. He played a total of 25 tests, 38 ODIs, and two T20Is for India.
Patel, however, was a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and led Gujarat to a Ranji Trophy win in 2016-17.
In the Indian Premier League(IPL), he played for various franchises and performed consistently as an opener. In this year's IPL, he was with Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise but didn't play a single game.
