Ruturaj Gaikwad's disappointing run in the IPL continued and was dismissed after scoring just 1 run against Lucknow Super Giants. After 2 overs, the Super Kings were at a score of 26/0 but Ruturaj's fortune betrayed him again and primarily he survived the LBW call but was run out on the same delivery, courtesy of an excellent thor by Ravi Bishnoi.

When Bishnoi connected the direct hit, Gaikwad was at least a metre/ 3 feet away from the crease. More often than not a batter survives in a similar position as aiming at a single stump with a direct hit is very challenging. However, Gaikwad wasn't one of the lucky ones.

The orange cap winner of IPL 2021 Ruturaj Gaikwad flopped against Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match as well and was dismissed for a duck after facing just 4 balls. If Gaikwad doesn't end this string of bad runs soon enough, a lot of problems will arise for Chennai Super Kings as the openers' consistent performance in the last season was one of the main reasons for the franchise to win the title.

While talking about the match, after being put in to bat first by Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul, Chennai Super Kings posted a total of 210/7 on the board courtesy of 50 from Uthappa and 49 from Shivam Dube, along with MSD providing the finishing touch with 16*(6). In reply, LSG started off strong as KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock added 99 runs in 10.1 overs. KL Rahul was dismissed after scoring 40 runs while de Kock smacked 61 runs. Evin Lewis smashed an unbeaten 55 runs off just 23 balls to take Lucknow Super Giants to their first victory in the IPL.
