Former Pakistani explosive all-rounder Shahid Afridi produced an all-round performance in the inaugural T20 World Cup, winning the 'Player of the Series' award courtesy of 91 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 197.82. With the bowl in hand, Afridi picked up 12 wickets in 7 matches at an economy of 6.71. Pakistan finished as runners-up in the tournament as India defeated arch-rivals in the final to lift the World Cup.
T20 World Cup 2009 - Tilakaratne Dilshan
Sri Lanka's ace batting all-rounder, Tilakaratne Dilshan, smacked 317 runs in 7 matches in the T20 World Cup 2009, striking at 144.74 while averaging 52.83. Dilshan registered 3 fifty-plus scores in the tournament as Sri Lanka managed to reach the finals. However, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final to lift the World Cup.
T20 World Cup 2010 - Kevin Pietersen
The T20 World Cup 2010 was historic for the England team, as they managed to win their first World Cup in cricketing history. Kevin Pietersen was the star for the team as he scored 248 runs in 6 matches, striking at 137.77 while averaging 62.00, registering two fifty-plus scores. England defeated Australia by 7 wickets in the final to lift the T20 World Cup 2010 trophy.

The Australian team cruised through to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2012, losing just one match in the Super 8 and Group stage combined. Virat Kohli was in impeccable form in the T20 World Cup 2014 as he smacked 319 runs in 6 matches, averaging an astounding 106.33 while striking at 129.14 with four fifty-plus scores to his name. India reached the final of T20 World Cup 2014, but were defeated by 6 wickets in the final by Sri Lanka. In the final, India scored 130/4 while batting first, out of which Virat Kohli had scored 77 runs.

In the T20 World Cup 2016, Virat Kohli became the first and till now the only player to win the 'Player of the Series' award twice in T20 World Cup. India managed to reach the semi-finals where they were defeated by West Indies. However, Virat Kohli managed to win the 'Player of the Series' award. The ace Indian batter carried his form from the last T20 World Cup, smacking 273 runs in 5 matches at a strike rate of 146.77, with an unbelievable average of 136.50.

After a long gap of 5 years, T20 World Cup returned in 2021, hosted by India in UAE. Australia managed to win their first T20 World Cup as they defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets in the final. Australian opener & T20 legend, David Warner was awarded the 'Player of the Series' award. In 7 innings, Warner smacked 289 runs at a strike rate of 146.70 while averaging 48.16. Warner smacked three fifty-plus scores as Australia lifted the trophy in 2021 and currently are the defending T20 champions.
