The cricketing fraternity is yet to level with the concept of 'Mankading' concerning the spirit of the game. With controversies ranging from Ashwin's Mankad incident in 2012 against Sri Lanka, cricketers and experts have formed different opinions about 'mankading'. In the ongoing U19 World Cup 2022, we got to witness this controversial dismissal again.
Uganda U19 team faced off against Papua New Guinea in the 13th place playoff semi-final 1, and Uganda emerged victorious by 35 runs. However, in the 16th over of the PNG's innings, we saw Joesph Baguma dismissing PNG batter John Kariko at the non-strikers' end without bowling.

Papua New Guinea were chasing a target of 124 when they crumbled to 68/7 inside the first 15 overs. PNG's John Kariko came out to bat #9 and was at the non-striker's end. Uganda's Joseph Baguma was bowling the 16th over, and on the last ball, when Baguma saw Kariko wandering away from his crease, he dislodged the stumps before bowling and appealed, and the umpire judged Kariko run out.
A video of the same has been shared by ICC on their Instagram account.
Earlier, the rules said that the bowler had to warn the batter once before committing to Mankad. Then, the rules were modified and now the bowler doesn't need to warn the batter.
However, cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Tabrazi Shamsi presented different views on this incident. While South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi supported this act, saying the bowlers get penalized for overstepping by a millimetre and they are penalized with a no-ball and a free hit. Therefore, batters at the non-striker's end should also be penalized for moving off the crease.
Further speaking on how 'mankading is against the spirit of the game', Shamsi said batters 'steal' inches while running and therefore only a bowler is not responsible for upholding the spirit of the game.
While former Indian cricketer and legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh presented a different point of view. The southpaw commented 'Absolutely poor' on this video, which suggests that Yuvraj is not a fan of Mankading and completely demotes it. What controversies will follow this dismissal, only time will tell.
