In another recent development, reports have stated that Virat Kohli has opted out of the 3-match ODI series against South Africa. Earlier, Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the Test series due to a hamstring injury he picked while practising in Mumbai.
According to the reports, Virat Kohli will miss the ODI series as he is planning a family vacation to celebrate his daughter Vamika's 1st birthday. It is significant that Vamika was born on 11th January last year, and the ODI series is set to begin from 19 January. The third and final test of the tour will be played from January 11 - January 15, in which Virat will lead the side.

Earlier in a turn of dramatic events, first Virat Kohli was removed as the skipper of the Indian ODI side, and in the manner he was removed that shook the cricketing fraternity. In a single tweet, BCCI sacked Kohli as captain and handed over the responsibility to Rohit Sharma, who was handed the T20I captaincy as well after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Rohit was also made the vice-captain of the Test side in place of Ajinkya Rahane. However, the limited overs' captain got injured while practising in Mumbai and became the first player to get injured before tours of all SENA countries.

Nonetheless, Virat's decision to skip the ODI series is purely due to family reasons or is he pique with the treatment BCCI has provided to the 'King'.
India is set to face South Africa in the first test against South Africa on Boxing Day, 26th December. This match will be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
India A captain Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the squad while Mayank Agarwal & KL Rahul are expected to open the innings for India.
