Jaitley is in the centre of a row over alleged financial irregularities during his 13-year tenure as DDCA chief and the Delhi government has recently ordered a probe into the affairs of the capital city's cricket governing body. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also demanded Arun Jaitley's resignation as Finance Minister for alleged corruption during his reign as DDCA president.

"Was a nightmare to speak to some others at DDCA but @arunjaitley ji was always available for players in case of any difficulty at any time," Sehwag wrote on his official Twitter account.

"In my time with DDCA if I ever came to know of any 'surprising' selection of a player, all I needed to do was to inform @arunjaitley," he added. "And @arunjaitley Ji would immediately ensure correction and justice for the deserving players at #DDCA."

The Delhi government has received support from former India captain Bishen Singh Bedi, but Gambhir asserted that Jaitley had done a lot to improve the game in the capital during his tenure which ended in 2013.

"Appalling to note some ex-players blame @arunjaitley ji for all that's wrong in DDCA. Whereas dey enjoyed plum posts in DDCA coz of him," he tweeted.

"Grossly inappropriate 2 blame @arunjaitley ji 4 corruption in DDCA. He was d one who got Delhi a proper stadium widout taxpayer's money."

India pacer Ishant Sharma, who represents Delhi in domestic cometitions, also tweeted his support for Jaitley.

"@arunjaitley ji has always been helpful, fair and kind in all my interactions with him #DDCA," he wrote on Twitter.
