Luck is one of the major factors a sportsperson needs while coming into the field of play. It doesn't undermine the skill athlete has, but it surely helps the player when competing with an equally competent opponent. On Friday, Ben Stokes had that kind of luck.
During Day 3 of the Sydney Test, Stokes and Jonny Bairstow were rebuilding the England innings after being four down for 36. They managed to add 21 runs in the next eight overs before a bizarre incident shocked everyone.

On the first ball of the 30th over, Cameron Green bowled angling in delivery into Stokes and it clipped something, which the Australians thought was the batters' pad. They appealed and the umpire gave it out.
But Stokes was confident that it didn't his pad and immediately took the review. On replays, it was revealed that the ball didn't hit his pad but the stumps and to everyone's surprise, the bails didn't come off.

Ben Stokes survived by a bit of bizarre luck that left the Australians shocked. The star England all-rounder cashed in on his luck and went on to hit a 70-ball fifty to lift the team's spirits.
