Kingma, while trying to shine the ball, put his thumbnail on the seam of the ball and damaged it. The umpires immediately stopped the play to check the condition of the ball and decided to change the ball.
Despite the Netherlands captain Pieter Seelaar discussing the issue with the umpires, Afghanistan were immediately awarded five runs.

Eventually, Afghanistan defeated the Netherlands by 75 runs to seal the three-match ODI series 3-0.
