This incident happened on the first delivery of the 17th over of the Sri Lankan innings. Danushka Gunathilaka reverse swept Rashid Khan for a four, after which Rashid and Gunathilaka were seen engaging in a verbal battle. Bhanuka Rajapksa, at the non-striker's end, came in between the two players to separate the two from arguing.

Somehow, the matter was resolved as Rashid Khan was calmed by Afghan players. However, the master spinner got the last laugh on the very next delivery of the over. Rashid delivered a length ball which Danushka tried to slog sweep. However, the batter missed the ball and it went on to uproot his stump. Gunathilaka scored 33 runs off 20 balls before getting clean bowled.

However, this wicket didn't affect the result of the match, as Gunathilaka had almost finished his job before getting dismissed. Earlier, courtesy of Rahmanullah Gurbaz's thunderous 84 runs, Afghanistan were able to score 175 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka chased down the target in 19.1 overs. However, Gurbaz was adjudged the 'Player of the Match' for his tremendous knock.
