New Zealand were at 131/3, recovering well from the early hiccups and extending their lead to 145 runs with a day and a session left in the game. Daryl Mitchell, who scored a magnificent 190 in the first innings, etched a partnership of 16 runs with opener Will Young.

On the second delivery of the 43rd over, Stokes bowled the delivery on the fullish length around off. Young defended it to the square leg region. It seemed like an easy single but the duo was confused and stopped quite too many times.

Ollie Pope did well enough to throw the ball towards the non-striker's end, making up his mind at the last moment to not throw it towards the striker's end. Ben Stokes collected the throw and did brilliant work to dislodge the stumps with the back of his hand with the ball in it, as Young fell short of the crease despite the dive. Young was dismissed after scoring 56 runs as New Zealand lost their 4th wicket.
