The ICC Women's World Cup couldn't have got a better start than today's tournament opener between hosts New Zealand and West Indies, who played one of the finest games of cricket.
The match went down to the wire with White Ferns needing 6 runs to win in the final over and three wickets remaining. Katey Martin and Jess Kerr were doing a fine job to keep everything in control for the hosts to chase down the 260-run target.

Deandra Dottin, who hadn't bowled a single over in the entire match, was given the responsibility to defend six runs in six balls.
On the first ball, Kerr smacked the ball towards the mid-off and a brilliant fielding cut down the run to only a single. On the second ball, Dottin's yorker grabbed her a wicket as Martin got out.
On the third ball, another full-length delivery could only give New Zealand a single run but Kerr was back on strike. However, Kerr got out trying to hit the ball over mid-off on the fourth ball.

On the fifth ball, Fran Jonas got run out trying to steal a single, and West Indies defeat New Zealand by three runs to begin their world cup campaign with a win.
